Some controversies that hit Sachin’s career:

Ball tampering charges:

During the second Test against South Africa in November 2001,
Sachin was seen cleaning the seam of the cricket ball. Match referee Mike Denness found
Sachin guilty of ball tampering and handed him a one Test match ban. Denness also took action
against five other Indian cricketers on various charges. This led to an uproar back home and
escalated to an extent that Denness was barred from entering the venue of the third Test match.
Later, ICC revoked the official status of the match and the ban on Sachin was revoked.

 Ferrari’s custom duty imbroglio:
Sachin was gifted a Ferrari 360 Modena in July 2002 by the automotive giant Ferrari
commemorating Sachin Tendulkar's feat of equalling Don Bradman's 29 centuries in Test.
India's then Finance Minister Jaswant Singh offered to waive custom's duty imposed on the
car as a measure to applaud his feat. However, the rules at the time stated that the customs
duty can be waived only when receiving an automobile as a prize and not as a gift. Social activists
protested the waiver. Subsequently, Sachin offered to pay the customs duty and the tab was finally
 picked up by Ferrari.
‘I’m an Indian first’ remark:
Sachin made a comment in a TV interview in November 2009 that snowballed into a big
controversy. He has said: "Mumbai belongs to India. That is how I look at it. I am a
Maharashtrian and I am extremely proud of that. But, I am an Indian first." Later, in an article
in the Shiv Sena mouthpiece, party chief Bal Thackeray hit out at Sachin Tendulkar saying,
“You said you are proud of being Marathi but are an Indian first. This has hurt the Marathi
people. From the cricket pitch you have entered the political pitch.”

Sachin’s son Aryan selection in Jan 2013: The selection of Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s
son Arjun in the Mumbai Under-14 team for West Zone league matches went viral sparking a
new controversy. According to the media reports, several deserving budding cricketers were
 left out.

There is no doubt Sachin Tendulkar is the real thing."
-Sunil Gavaskar,

"I have seen god. he bats at no.4 for India."
-Mathew Hayden,
